Field planning
Before adding fields, decide what information must be consistent on every record. Good field design reduces free-form notes and makes records easier to review later.
Common field types
| Field type | Use |
|---|---|
| Text | Names, notes, identifiers, short descriptions. |
| Number | Counts, readings, measurements, quantities. |
| Boolean | Yes/no, pass/fail, complete/incomplete values. |
| Date | Inspection dates, due dates, completion dates. |
| Date and time | Timestamped events where time matters. |
Required fields
Use required fields for information that must always be captured. Avoid making every field required unless the process truly needs it.
